Overview: VLC 0.8.4
VLC is a media player created by the VideoLAN group (www.videolan.org). It plays several different multimedia formats. VLC had very impressive audio results. It was able to stream all sample-rates and word-lengths, and it achieved bit-transparency at 100% volume with correct settings in Audio MIDI Setup. It has a well-designed digital volume control, and the sample-rate conversion was executed well.

Recommended Player Settings
We recommend the following configurations when using VLC for audio playback:
[edit]
SET SAMPLE-RATE AND 24-BIT OUTPUT IN MAC'S AudioMIDI SETUP
- The sample-rate settings in Audio MIDI Setup must correspond with the sample-rate of the audio
- The AudioMIDI Setup control interface can usually be found in the 'Utilities' folder

- Read about sample-rate and word-length for more information on why this is important.

SET VOLUME TO 100%
- Although VLC has a well-designed digital volume control, it is still recommended to keep the digital volume controls at 100%. We recommend controlling the volume with an analog volume control (post D-to-A conversion).
